On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, Layne Smalley was honored at the sixth annual Career and Technical Education Student Recognition Program at Oakland Schools, along with top Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from around Oakland County. Mr. Smalley was selected by Lakeland’s CTE staff due to his outstanding participation in the Business, Career Internship, Digital Multimedia, Graphics & Communications, Marketing and Radio & TV Broadcasting Technology programs. Also recognized as part of the program were the HVS Business Administration, Management & Operations programs at Lakeland and Milford High Schools. Our business programs were nominated for the 2015 Outstanding Career and Technical Education Programs in Oakland County and received an Honorable Mention! |
On Saturday, May 16, Mr. Howe took 8 students to the Michigan Council for the Social Studies Quiz Bowl Competition. The team of Captain Layne Smalley, Nelson Turnage, Will Bentley and Matt Lindon took a 2nd place out of 12 teams and got a Silver Medal. This is the 3rd year in a row that we have placed in the top 2. The other team of Emily Heyburn, Sarah Leffler, Sarah Markley and Haley Sheldon did a great job but failed to make the medal round. |

On May 19th, the Lakeland Athletic Department hosted a final press conference for those senior student-athletes who will continue competing in athletics after high school.
Athletic Director Greg Michaels moderated the event which featured 11 student-athletes from the Class of 2015. A number of classmates, parents, and coaches were also in attendance. Blake McComas, Trevor Learmont, Jackson Grzymkowski, and Drew Wenger were 6th (All State) in the 4x800m Relay at the State Track and Field Finals. Jackson was also All State (7th) in the 1600 setting the new school record of 4:14.9 Adriana Ball, Mackenzie Gross, Lena Tiedeman, and Jessica Erickson were All State (7th) in the 4x 100m Relay. |
