ACADEMICS
On March 10, Lakeland High School took its first full team to compete in the annual KLAA Math & Science Olympics which was held at Walled Lake Central High School. Twenty-eight of our students competed individually in one of six different math subjects, three different science subjects, or in pairs in three different science labs. The evening culminated with a team competition where all twelve math students competed in the Math Relay while the other sixteen science competitors worked together on a variety of different science problems.
I am pleased to announce that Lakeland was awarded handsomely for its efforts in its first competition. Junior Nathan Bump received the Gold Medal in Individual Physics while fellow classmates Mark Smith (Senior) and Oliver Aho (Junior) walked away with the Gold Medal for their work in the Physics Lab event. Congratulations to all three of these gentlemen for their 1st place wins, not to mention to their proud teacher, Laurie Worthington, who actually showed up to the event to support her kids. Great job!!
I would also like to recognize and thank James Loisel and Brad Schopieray for assembling, organizing and sponsoring the team for this event. They did a tremendous job, especially considering it was our first time competing and they, as well as all of the kids, are hungry and excited for a return trip in 2017.

The Lakeland Wind Ensemble performed at the MSBOA Band Festival at Lake Orion High School Friday Night and had another fantastic performance, receiving Straight Division I Ratings from all 4 judges!!! This completes 9 consecutive years or receiving the highest rating possible. The band was scored with 18 A's and 2 B+'s overall. The students did an incredible job and should be very proud!
