Congratulations to the Lakeland Softball team, who won a district title on Saturday, May 4. The team defeated Hartland in the first game, and Milford in the district final. In the final game, Milford jumped out to an early 5-0 lead as their bats were in sync with Menzel’s pitches. Senior Ashley Holland came on to put the brakes on Milford’s offense, holding them to 1 additional run over the next 5 innings. Meanwhile, Lakeland’s offense chipped away at the lead. With the scoreboard reading 6-4 with the Eagles at the plate in the bottom of the 7th, the team responded in the clutch again. Junior Chase Schultz singled, then Koteles walked. Langdon again delivered a key hit to make the score 6-5. Castellon fought off a tough pitch for an infield hit, tying the score. Then Miller came through for the second game in a row, lacing a ball to right-center to score the Championship-clinching run. Congratulations Girls!

Saturday, June 4, the Boys and Girls Track teams sent a number of athletes to compete in the MHSAA State Finals at Hudsonville High School. Four Eagles earned All-State honors for their efforts.
Senior Zack Confer capped a solid career by placing in the top 8 in both the discus and the shot put. His throw of 152′ 6″ in the discus was good for 7th place, and his throw of 50′ 3 1/4″ in the shot put placed 6th overall. Senior Reina Troxell, who was unable to compete her junior year because of an ACL injury, finished her Lakeland career with a school-record throw of 126′ 10″ in the discus, an effort that placed her 5th in the state. Senior Jackson Grzymkowski had an unfortunate fall in the 1600m race, an incident that forced him to step off the track for a no-finish result. However, Jackson responded by setting a new PR in the 800m of 1:53.43, good enough for 4th place and All-State honors. Freshman sprinter Grace Stark, having established herself as one of the fastest in the state in her first year of competition, placed 7th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.51.
Several Eagles placed 9th in their events. Stark had the 9th-fastest time in 100m qualifying. Senior Emma Neumann finished her record-setting high school career with a 9th place effort in the pole vault. Erin Keller, another senior, took 9th place in the high jump. Freshman Madeline Rehm ran 5:04 to finish 9th in an extremely-fast 1600m race.
Junior Haley Rathwell finished 16th in the 300m hurdles, while junior Marisa Sailus took 17th in the 200m and 22nd in the 400m. The boys 4x800m relay team, comprised of Grzymkowski, Cody McComas, Hunter Lukes, and Drew Wenger, placed 23rd.
