ACADEMICS
The week of Sept 28th through Oct 3rd Lakeland celebrated Homecoming 2015 "The Homecoming Games". The week was filled with spirit days, cafeteria games, a big pep assembly, our big football game vs. Waterford Kettering, and the crowning of the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen. All of that was followed by the big Homecoming dance on Saturday Oct 3rd. The Senior Class of 2016 won the cafeteria wall decorating contest and the Sophomore Class of 2018 won the weekly spirit point competition.
Lakeland won the football game 28-21 and at halftime Lakeland Seniors Marissa Kornatowski and Jason Wooster were crowned Homecoming Queen and King from the Homecoming court. Homecoming is put together by the Lakeland Leadership class under the direction of Mr. Rolando. The event was sponsored by Steve Oaks RE/MAX Classic and Flowers of the Lakes. Lakeland participated in the Michigan Math Prize Competition. This year we had 24 students enrolled to take the test (23 AP Calculus students and 1 Honors Algebra 2 student). Students that score above the cut off score, will be offered the opportunity to participate in a 2nd part in December with the chance to earn a scholarship. LHS senior, Nicholas Musienko, is vying for his 3rd appearance in the 2nd part of this competition. That would be a first at LHS! The Community Service Club and JOOI Club participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Walk to Fight Suicide at Kensington Metropark. We had over 20 walkers registered with Team Lakeland, and 12 volunteers supported the event in numerous key roles. Additionally, The Laikes (Erica and Kate Johnson and Marina Mihelich) performed on the main stage as part of the program. All in all, it was a tremendously successful event. |
Throughout the weekend of October 23-25, over a dozen LHS students volunteered their time to support the VFAA's fundraiser event, The Haunted SHAC. Students volunteered as actors, make up artists, hidden scare prop operators, safety patrol, and hallway monitors. The event was a great success, and a very fun way for LHS students to get involved with the local community.
ATHLETICS
On October 13th, 2015 our Boys Cross Country team won the 2015 KLAA North Division Title! Congrats!
On October 22, 2015 the boys cross country team competed at Island Lakes State Park against the West Division and the rest of the North Division of the KLAA. That made it a 12 team race. The race went out extremely fast lead by Lakeland's Jackson Grzymkowski. It went out so fast the rest of the field got drawn out and it became test of grit and commitment. Our team took the pain and came out victorious. Boys Cross Country KLAA Lakes Conference Champs! |
