Please congratulate Alissa Schemers, Paige Thomas, and Nicolas Fus whose AP Psychology projects from last spring were chosen for publication in the national Whitman Journal of Psychology. Their projects were on if student performance would change based on the order of difficulty of test questions (Alissa and Paige) and if the presence of females would increase the weight training performance of males (Nick). The articles can be found here if you are interested. 28 Lakeland High School students participated in the 58th annual Michigan Math Prize Competition on October 7th. 2 students have qualified for the 2nd round of the competition, placing them in the top 10% of all students taking the test. Brooke Stewart, senior: current Advanced Placement Calculus standout Nicholas Musienko, junior: current Honors Precalculus standout Brooke and Nicholas will now have the opportunity to earn a place in the top 100 students in the state, and potentially earn a scholarship ranging from $250 - $2500. Please congratulate these exceptional students; as well as all the other hard-working Lakeland math students that participated. Carly Shay has been recognized at OSTC within the iTEAM cluster as Student of the Month! On October 29, 2014 six members of Dexacorp (the virtual firm from Mrs. Schmitt's BMT3 class) represented Lakeland High School at the 2014 VEI-MI Leadership Conference. The day was spent at the Genessee Career Institute, Base Camp where students experienced leadership training, general management instruction, team building, networking with other VEI students from around the state, and participation in either a High Ropes or Rock Wall personal challenge. This year, Dexacorp was represented by Sam Burks (VP of Human Resources), Megan DeHetre (Administration Executive), Carly Shay (CFO), Courtney Territo (VP of Sales & Marketing), Natalie VarnHagen (VP of Administration), and Jon Weier (Human Resources Executive). |
ARTS
It was an amazing weekend for participants as well as spectators as Lakeland and Milford High School bands hosted the Huron Valley Invitational. Twenty four bands from across the state performed in the Lakeland High School Football Stadium. Ian Lynar & Jillian Schupbach were accepted into the Michigan School Vocal Music Association Regional Honors Choir for 9-12th Grade. |
