The HOT Team finished qualification matches ranked #1 with a 97.41 point Qualification Average (The average score at the event was 48.77). In the quarter finals, our alliance produced the highest score in the tournament, 167points. The team also brought home the Motorola Quality Award- celebrating machine robustness in concept and fabrication. The team will be back in action at the Livonia Churchill District Event March 27-28. The band performed at the MSBOA Band Festival at Waterford Kettering yesterday and received Straight I's (Superior Rating) across the board! Each adjudicator has a rubric with 5 categories and we received 19 - A's and 1 - B in the 20 total categories for the day! This is the best the group has done overall in years, and they sounded amazing. On March 22nd we had 30 student performances from the Lakeland Bands participate in the MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble Festival (they had to receive a Superior at Districts to qualify). 15 of our students walked away with a Division I rating (highest possible) and the other 15 walked away with a Division II rating. Jane Waddington, Rikako Miki, and Thomas Zammit each walked away with a pair of Division I ratings. Congratulations to all these outstanding students! |
ACADEMICS
It was a great weekend [March13-15th] for Lakeland's DECA program. Lakeland was recognized for raising over $860 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, achieving the All-Star Chapter Status for the National Campaign, as well as the Gimme Five Award. In addition, 68 students represented Lakeland at the DECA State Career Development. Out of those 68 students, 45 students received a medal as a State Finalist. 34 of those students were recognized not only as state finalists, but qualified to represent Lakeland High School and Michigan DECA at the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida this April. On March 31, 2015, approximately 60 members of the community shared their career preparation and advice with our junior class during the 2015 Lakeland Career Expo! Following a keynote address by Mark Lanfear of Kelly Outsourcing & Consulting, students walked around the gym visiting 50 booths representing all six career pathways (Arts & Communication, Business Management Marketing Technology, Health Sciences, Human Services, Enginner Manufacturing & Industrial Technology, and Natural Resources & Agriscience). It was an awesome morning of networking! Junior Alyssa Noch was invited to attend the Michigan Youth Arts Festival for Creative Writing this year based on the strength of her short story "The Impossibility of Falling". She was one of 34 students in the state of Michigan invited to attend. Junior students, Mallory Byrd and Christine Vaillencourt were accepted into Cornell University's Summer Scholars program. |
