ATHLETICS
The U.S. Army and the Pro Football Hall of Fame recognized Lakeland High School student-athlete Daniel Miller in White Lake, MI on Wednesday, Nov. 6 as one of 10 finalists for the U.S. Army – Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence. Former Lion great and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Charlie Sanders came to Lakeland along with CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame George Veras and Major Mueller from the US Army to present this award to Dan in a ceremony held in the CPA. Jackson Grzymkowski was 60th at the Division 1 state XC championships. Kyle Garbovits was 102nd at the Division 1 State XC championships. For the Michigan-Michigan St football game build-up, the Girls Basketball program and the DECA program invited students to donate money on behalf of their favorite school. To entice participation, a friendly competition involved Mr. Head (a UM grad) and Mr. Leitheim (a MSU grad). Whichever school received the most donations, the teacher from the other school had to dress in that school's colors. Well, Michigan State had the greatest support, so Mr. Head had to wear green and white the Friday before the game (see photo). All in all, nearly $400 was raised for MDA and Stand Up to Cancer. |
