On November 12 the Lakeland High School leadership class hosted the 2016 Holiday Hope for Kids Bowl-a-thon in Waterford at the Century Bowl. The event was a great success and over 160 bowlers raised $5000 for our Holiday Hope for Kids party.
On December 8 the Holiday Hope for Kids party was held at Lakeland High School. The event is sponsored each year by the Lakeland Student Leadership program and has been held for more than four decades. Special needs children from across Oakland County were greeted by Santa Claus and each child received a gift from Santa and enjoyed a pizza lunch. Over 100 student participants were outstanding hosts as they too learned the valuable lessons in giving and helping those less fortunate during this holiday season.

ATHLETICS
ARTS
As part of the small adult state board consisting of Theatre educators, we hosted our annual Michigan Thespian Festival the first weekend in December in Saginaw. Students were able to see other high schools perform shows, participate in workshops, make connections with other schools and students, perform for professionals, and audition for scholarships to universities.
Five senior students earned a collective amount of scholarships worth over $250,000.
Congratulations to the following students:
Christopher Alvira (Lighting Design)
Amelia Glenn (Costume Design)
Emma Silak (Costume Design)
Jason Dernay (Acting)
Jillian Schupbach (Musical Theatre)
ALL of our Individual Events earned the top two ratings (out of four levels)
Congratulations to the following students:
Sydney Ryan - Superior in Monologue Performance
Caitlin Thompson - Superior in Sound Design
Jillian Schupbach - Excellent in Musical Theatre
Melody Kondoff - Excellent in Musical Theatre
Emma Silak - Excellent in Costume Design
Caitlin Thompson - Excellent in Monologue Performance
Student Thespian Officer
Jason Dernay served his second year on the exclusive STO Board, helping to execute this successful festival and running several aspects throughout the weekend. Last year, Jason ran for International Thespian Officer (only 6 in the whole country) and made it to the final round. Unfortunately, of the eight candidates in that final round, Jason did not make the International status. Lakeland Theatre is incredibly proud of him and the great success in national Leadership he has found through his love of Theatre.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MR. BOB GREEN, LHS BAND DIRECTOR:
I am proud to announce that I was contacted by the Athletic Department at Boston College, through their Athletic Director, and asked to represent Boston College Football as THEIR BAND at the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field on December 26, 2016. This happened because of a recommendation from the Executive Director of the Michigan Competing Band Association, who felt we would do the right job to fill in for the BC Marching Band at this event.
While there are high school bands all over the country performing at bowl game events and parades this holiday season, I believe we might be the ONLY high school band standing in as the band for the College Team playing in the game. We will be Boston College's Eagle Band! We are extremely honored to have this opportunity and will do our best to represent BC and Huron Valley Schools and Lakeland with pride.
The band will be playing all game in the BC section, as well as at both pre-game and halftime!
